Over the past few months Community Rail Lancashire have been working with Accrington and Rossendale College to support the 8 week Rail Maintenance course which is led by the excellent tutor – Ste Latimer. The course includes classroom learning at the college, while the practical element will see students partake in a number of activities including changing sleepers and repairing the railway track.
Some of the activities we have worked collaboratively with include: A construction workshop for year 10 students from local high schools. Pupils had the opportunity to see some of the different courses the college has to offer and watch a demonstration by the rail maintenance students. Rail Maintenance learners have had a session at the bunker to learn about what Community Rail Lancashire does and have a safety session in the classroom. We have also arranged a trip on the train to visit the Ribble Steam Railway in Preston.
Community Rail Lancashire are looking forward to working with the college again next academic year.
