CRL is celebrating the successful conclusion of the Railway 200 Inspiration Train tour, which has inspired thousands of young people across the UK to discover the past, present and future of Britain’s railways.
The nationwide tour came to a close at a special celebration event in Scarborough on Monday 22 June, bringing together partners and contributors who helped make the initiative such a success. Over the past year, the Inspiration Train visited 60 locations across the country, welcoming more than 100,000 visitors, including around 6,000 schoolchildren from 190 schools.
Designed to mark 200 years of modern rail, the travelling exhibition gave visitors the opportunity to explore the history of Britain’s railways, experience the latest innovations and learn about the wide variety of careers available across the industry.
CRL was proud to be represented at the closing celebration by Dave, recognising the significant contribution he and the TrainEd team made to the project’s success in the North West. Working closely with 70 primary and secondary schools, Dave and the TrainEd team organised visits for around 1,800 pupils, many of whom travelled to the Inspiration Train by rail, making the journey itself part of the learning experience.
Ahead of each visit, the team worked directly with schools to help make the experience as engaging as possible. They distributed Arlo books to younger pupils, provided rail careers information leaflets to encourage students to explore future opportunities in the industry, and coordinated school visits from start to finish. By arranging travel, often by train, and supporting teachers throughout the process, they helped ensure that as many young people as possible could take part in this unique educational experience.
The Railway 200 Inspiration Train has showcased not only Britain’s rich railway heritage but also the exciting future of the industry. CRL is proud to have supported an initiative that has inspired the next generation and encouraged young people to consider careers in rail.
