On Saturday 21st March, Girlguiding hosted a nationwide Cityscapes game across five cities, bringing together girls from across the UK for a day of teamwork, exploration, and learning. Following the success of The Railway Challenge Badge last year, Catherine from CRL was invited to support the York event as part of the team running a base at the National Railway Museum.
At the museum, the team delivered an engaging STEM activity where participants could design and cost their own railway while also learning about careers within the rail industry. The activity proved highly popular, with 131 teams logging in at the National Railway Museum overall and 116 teams taking part specifically in the STEM challenge.
The event attracted an estimated 1,300 Girlguiding visitors to the museum throughout the day. Attendees travelled from a wide range of regions, including Girlguiding Anglia, LaSER, Midlands, North West England, Scotland, and North East England, with particularly strong representation from areas such as Cleveland, Durham, Newcastle, and Yorkshire.
The York Cityscapes event was a great success, combining fun, education, and inspiration, while highlighting the opportunities available in the railway sector for future generations.
