Feel Good Futures is a year-long educational initiative funded by Avanti West Coast and delivered by Community Rail Lancashire’s Rail Officer, Dave Savage. The project provides local school students aged 14 to 18 with unique and immersive learning opportunities that may otherwise be out of reach.
Building on the success of Avanti’s award-winning Feel Good Field Trips—which engaged over 5,000 young people aged 4 to 18—this new programme focuses on the vital role of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) in the rail industry. Each field trip highlights real-world applications of STEM and introduces students to the wide range of career pathways within the railway sector.
Coinciding with Railway 200, the industry-wide celebration marking 200 years of the modern railway, Feel Good Futures also helps educate and inspire the next generation about the historical and future significance of rail in the UK.
The first trip saw Year 10 students from The Heath School in Runcorn visit Liverpool Traincare Centre in Edge Hill, where they met staff from Avanti West Coast and Alstom. Students gained first-hand insight into careers in rail maintenance and the operations behind servicing the Class 390 Pendolino fleet.
