Through partnering with local community groups, youth clubs, schools and colleges people from all ages and backgrounds have explored, discovered and shared the hidden gems in their own local area. With camera’s in hand they have set out to snap the special features that are all around us when we take the time to take a look. The photographs are then reviewed by the group and a selection made for a digital print to be displayed at their local railway station.
So far the following stations have taken part: Kirkham and Wesham, Lytham St Anne’s, Hyton, Bootle New Strand, Blundell Sands & Crosby, Meols Cop, Formby, Waterloo, Seaforth and Litherland, Bryn, Garswood, Gathurst, Wigan North Western and St Helens Central.
Katie Douglas, Accessibility and Inclusion Officer commented: “It’s been an absolute privilege to work with local people of all ages to explore their local areas together and they are rightly proud to celebrate all their hidden gems. 280+ people have been involved in this project so far and many of them knew nothing of community rail beforehand. Ambassadors for the future!”
