We were delighted to welcome 25 learners from Nelson and Colne College to Accrington Eco Station this week, as part of week 2 of their 8-week NVQ Rail Engineering Track Maintenance course.
The day began with an inspiring talk from Dan, a former student of the programme who is now working for Network Rail. He shared his journey from completing the NVQ to building his career in the rail industry. We also introduced the learners to the work we do at Community Rail Lancashire and the role of the Eco Station.
With the sunshine on our side, we headed out into the Eco Garden where the group got fully involved. In just an hour, they made a huge difference, transforming the space and preparing it for upcoming Stations of Welcome activities.
The learners also spent time on the platform, gaining hands-on experience of railway procedures, including how to safely acknowledge train drivers.
This continues to be a fantastic partnership with the college. It’s a brilliant course that prepares people for careers in the rail industry, and it’s especially rewarding to hear how many former learners are now progressing into roles with Network Rail.
