The TrainEd team has been busy this week delivering sessions and supporting events as part of Rail SafetyWeek 2026.

On Monday, Karen and Catherine attended the Rail Safety Week Conference in York. Karen spoke about the benefits of taking young people on train journeys as a way of delivering rail safety education and shared the All Aboard booklet, which CRL developed earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Dave spent two days at Safeside in Birmingham, delivering rail safety workshops to around 140 students. Safeside is a life-sized safety village featuring a train carriage, double-decker bus, shop, police station and even a canal. The facility provides realistic scenarios that help students understand potential dangers and learn how to stay safe. Every child also received a copy of Arlo’s Adventures. Members of the team have also visited schools throughout the week to deliver rail safety talks and careers workshops.

On Thursday, 30 Year 1 pupils from Woodnook Primary School visited the ‘bunker’ at Accrington Eco Station. After taking part in a rail safety talk, they travelled by train to Blackburn to visit the cathedral. For around a third of the children, it was their very first train journey!

Catherine has also been supporting the fantastic Leeds Railway Safety Week, which has seen more than 1,000 children visit the station to learn vital rail safety skills. Find out more here: Network Rail article

It has been a busy and rewarding week for the team, helping young people across the country build confidence, learn about rail safety and experience the railway firsthand.
